At LCPS we aspire for all learners to develop a wider understanding of the world they are in through delivery of an enriched, creative curriculum. Through its delivery, we aim for all learners to:

  • Develop respect for other cultures
  • Foster a sense of responsibility and a place in wider society
  • Gain a true sense of the British values of rule of law, democracy, and tolerance
  • Use their sense of wonder to drive their inquiry
  • Observe and analyse phenomena
  • Evaluate their learning and present it back in a variety of ways

Each year group delivers their curriculum using a central topic as a ‘hook’, upon which to base their learning. Wherever possible, cross-curricular links are developed to ground the children’s learning within a frame of common reference. Therefore, in any one topic, the children could expect to see how English, Maths, Science, Geography, History, Computing, Personal Social Health Education, Religious Education, Languages, Physical Education, Music, Design Technology, Art and Design, and Citizenship could all be intrinsically linked. Each year group splits the year over 6 topics, each with an exciting title to draw the children in.

Where possible, each topic will have a trip, residential, or special day/visitor to further enrich the topic and provide a memorable experience for the children. The educational value of these extra experiences for the children cannot be overstated, and it is something we at LCPS hold dear to our hearts.

In addition to our usual timetable, we also look to engage our learners further in key aspects of the curriculum through whole day ‘WOW’ events. These will vary from year to year, but allow for all our learners to access learning not usually covered by the standard curriculum.
